Barcode generator
Type a value, pick a barcode type and download a sharp PNG or SVG. Check digits for EAN and UPC are calculated for you.
Runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you enter is sent to a server.
Which barcode should I use?
- Code 128 — compact, encodes letters, numbers and symbols. Good for shipping labels, inventory and asset tags.
- EAN-13 — the 13-digit retail barcode used worldwide (including Canada).
- UPC-A — the 12-digit retail barcode common in Canada and the US. It’s an EAN-13 with a leading 0.
- EAN-8 — a short retail code for very small packages.
Selling in stores?
Retail barcodes must use a company prefix licensed from GS1 (GS1 Canada here). Making up an EAN or UPC number, or buying cheap resold numbers, can get products rejected by retailers and marketplaces. For your own inventory, Code 128 with any internal code is fine.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need to enter the check digit?
No. Enter 12 digits for EAN-13, 11 for UPC-A or 7 for EAN-8 and the check digit is added. If you enter the full number, it’s verified.
Can I print these?
Yes. Download SVG for the sharpest print at any size, and keep a white margin around the bars.
Are the barcodes free to use?
Yes, the images are yours. Retail EAN/UPC numbers themselves must come from GS1.
